International Student Application Requirements

(a) A completed International Undergraduate Application for Admission.

(b) A $30.00 non-refundable application fee paid in U.S. dollars only, in the form of a bank draft, money order, or check. DO NOT SEND CASH.

(c) An official transcript from the last high school attended with a certified English translation, (if you have earned less than the equivalent of 30 semester hours of college credit). A transcript is considered “Official” only if imprinted with the issuing institution’s official seal.

(d) Official college transcripts from each college attended (if applicable). A transcript is considered “official” only if imprinted with the issuing institution’s official seal. Transcripts not originally issued in English must be accompanied by exact English translations.


A copy of SAT/ACT scores (if you have earned less than the equivalent of 30 semester hours).

(e) An official bank statement showing proof of funds for at least $23,063 (or equivalent in foreign currency) to cover the first 12 months of expenses, if single. (Note: Fund requirements are subject to change because of tuition increases, cost of living increases, etc.) If married and/or have dependents, students must show proof of an additional $4,000.00 for their spouse and $3,000.00 for each child. A financial document will not be considered “official” if it is not printed on bank or organization letterhead with the amount clearly displayed.

(f) An affidavit of financial support MUST accompany the bank statement. An affidavit of financial support must show how the student’s education and living expenses are to be financed over the expected duration of their education. If a student is being sponsored by a local school and a relative, both the sponsor and the relative must submit an affidavit showing how much they expect to supply toward the students expenses each year, (this also includes any money supplied by the immediate family). Applications can not be processed until proof of adequate funding is supplied to the college.

(g) Proof of two sets of immunization, (shots) for; Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) signed by a physician, is required of all students born on or after January 1, 1957.

(h) Proof of health insurance with a clear expiration date. Students may send either a copy of their insurance card from their home country insurance company (with English translation), or students may purchase insurance from Mesa State College or another insurance vendor. If students choose to submit insurance from their home country, they will also need to submit proof that the insurance is accepted in the U.S. while in a student status.

(i) English Language Proficiency Requirements. If not from a country where English is the primary language, student must submit ONE of the following items:

  • A minimum TOEFL test average score of 70 (Internet Based), 525 (paper based), or 195 (computer based).
  • A minimum IELTS test score of Band 6.
  • Other evidence of English proficiency, such as attended an English speaking institution. All cases are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

(j) If transferring from another school, students must submit a Transfer Verification Form completed
by the appropriate school official at the previous college or university. Other official documentation from the previous school, such as a transcript showing completion of a program, may be sufficient in some cases.
