For students interested in our technical associates and certificate programs offered through WCCC(Western Colorado Community College) - selection is generally open.
The Colorado Commission on Higher Education has set up an index recommendation for students interested in earning bachelors degrees at Colorado colleges and universities. Mesa State considers students with an index of 85 or higher and successful completion of the Higher Education Admission Requirements for baccalaureate programs, while students below the index will be considered for admission into associates and certificate programs.

Mesa State requires either the SAT I or the ACT for admission consideration for bachelors and associate degree programs. No SAT 1 or ACT score is required for admission into our certificate programs. More information about the ACT is available at www.actstudent.org. Registration packets are also available at the Testing Center.

Mesa State does not require letters of recommendation. If letters are submitted they will be reviewed and considered in the admission of a student. Letters of recommendation are especially helpful for students who are concerned about their admissibility. Students who would like to submit letters of recommendation should submit those letters which address academic preparedness for college level work in their field of interest, work ethic, promise, and motivation. Students should also know that while a letter of recommendation can assist in the admissions process, the actual ADMISSION of a student is based upon a review of the ENTIRE application.
Although desirable - Mesa State does not require essays. Essays, however, provide a forum for students to tell us more about who they are, what is important to them and allows the admissions staff the opportunity to take special events in a prospective students life into consideration. This can also be especially helpful in the consideration of an applicant who has had a particularly difficult year for a variety of reasons. For those students who are concerned about their admissibility - an essay is HIGHLY encouraged and will be reviewed by the Admissions Review Committee and will likely have bearing on the admission for the student.
