Scholarships and Grants
Mesa State College offers a wide variety of academic and leadership scholarships to incoming freshmen, transfer, returning, and continuing students. Scholarships are based on academic and leadership merit. For a complete list of scholarships please visit the Financial Aid Office.
Unlike a loan, a grant does not have to be repaid. Grants will be credited to your account automatically after you have enrolled in the correct number of credit hours to coincide with your award status.

Need-Based Financial Aid
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov to be considered for grants, loans, and work study. Mesa State's code is 001358.
Academic Achievement Scholarship
For students to qualify to receive the $1,200 Academic Achievement Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
- ACT/SAT = 22/1040
- GPA = 3.0
- Class Rank =Top 20%
Merit Scholarships
High-achieving, incoming freshmen are considered for merit scholarships based on a combination of any two of the following: class rank, GPA, and ACT/SAT scores. All awards are renewable for four years. No separate application is necessary; you are automatically considered.

Available grants include:
Federal Pell Grant
Funded by the federal government and awarded to resident and non-resident undergraduate students
who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. Funds are available to students demonstrating financial need
according to federal regulations.
Credit hours may vary:
12+ credit hours: Student will receive 100% of their eligible award.
9 - 11 credit hours: Student will receive 75% of their eligible award.
6 - 9 credit hours: Student will receive 50% of their eligible award.
Colorado Student Grant
State funds made available to Colorado residents with documented need. Student must be enrolled in 12
credit hours per semester to receive this grant.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Funds are extremely limited in this grant and are awarded to students with exceptional need. Student must
be enrolled in 12 credit hours per semester to receive this grant.
Academic Competitive Grant (ACG)
Federal funds made available to Pell-eligible incoming freshmen, who have completed a rigorous high
school schedule as defined by your state.
National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART)
Federal funds available to full-time Pell recipients in an eligible major enrolled in third or fourth
academic years.
TEACH Grant
This grant is available to graduate and undergraduate students who will agree to serve as a full-time
teacher at specified schools and teach in a specified field for four academic years within eight years after
completing the college course. TEACH Grant recipients who do not fulfill their teaching obligations must
repay the grant as if it was an unsubsidized Direct loan. We highly recommend you read more about this

Work Study Awards
Federal/Colorado Work-Study
Federal and state funds available to students for part-time employment to help offset educational costs.
Student must be enrolled in 12 credit hours per semester.
No-Need Work-Study
State funds made available to assist Colorado resident students that are not eligible for need-based
financial assistance. Student must be enrolled in 12 credit hours per semester to receive Work-Study.
