Student Media and Publications

Mesa State provides opportunities for students to become involved in newspaper, magazine, poetry, prose, radio, and research publication. The following entities are partially funded by student fees and governed by the Mesa State Media Board, which consists of student editors, faculty advisers, and other representatives of the College and student body.

Criterion

The Criterion, a weekly student-published newpaper, covers campus news and represents student views on local, regional, and national issues. The Criterion, which has a campus and community circulation of 4,500, is supported by student fees and advertising revenue. The adviser for the Criterion is Bill Haggerty (bhaggert@mesastate.edu). Horizon Magazine

Horizon is a full-color student magazine produced mainly by Mass Communications students. Depending on the number of students interested, one or two issues are published each year. It is a general interest magazine with feature articles and photos about people, organizations and things of interest in the Grand Junction area. One thousand copies are distributed mainly at area hospitals and physicians offices. For more information, contact Professor Byron Evers, Horizon adviser (bevers@mesastate.edu).

KMSA, 91.3 FM

KMSA is a student-operated and student-managed full service radio station broadcasting from the Mesa State campus since 1975. KMSA, 91.3 on the FM dial, fills the air with Alternative music, speciality music shows, news and sports 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Although most staff members and Directors are Mass Communication majors, students in all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply for positions. The purpose of the station is to allow Mesa State students to gain professional experience in radio. The KMSA studio is located in the Fine Arts Building. Professor Regis Tucci (rtucci@mesastate.edu) serves as faculty adviser for KMSA.

Literary Review

The Literary Review is a student publication which accepts fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and art submissions for publication. It is published yearly.

MSC-TV

This is a student-operated and student-managed television station broadcasting from the Mesa State campus on cable Channel 2. It fills the air with news and sports twice a week. Although most staff members and managers are Mass Communication majors, students in all academic disciplines are encouraged to join. The purpose of MSC-TV is to allow Mesa State students to gain professional experience in television. The studio is located in the Fine Arts Building, third floor, rooms 312a-c. Professor Regis Tucci (rtucci@mesastate.edu) serves as faculty advisor for MSCtv.
