ILL FAQ

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan provides you with library materials not available locally.  Before placing an ILL request for articles, please check MSC holdings: Journal Finder.  Before placing an ILL request for books or other library materials, please check these resources: Mesa State Library Catalog, Western Slope Libraries (Marmot), and Colorado Front Range Libraries (Prospector).

What material may I request?

Tomlinson Library will attempt to fill all requests.   Be aware that some material is difficult to obtain, including dissertations, genealogy, reference, and rare items.

Is there a charge for Interlibrary Loan?

Rarely is there a cost for MSC students and faculty.  If there is a charge you will be consulted by e-mail beforehand.

How do I place an Interlibrary Loan request?

Submit an ILL Request form.  A request should be submitted only after checking that the material is not available locally.

How do I determine the status of my request?
Contact the ILL Department at 970.248.1844 or ill@mesastate.edu.  We are always happy to assist you.

How long will it takes for my requests to arrive?
Articles usually arrive within 2-5 business days, and other library materials (books, videos, etc.) usually arrive within 7-10 business days.

How will I be notified when my material has arrived?

You will receive an e-mail with further instructions.

How do I pick it up?

Hard copy materials can be picked up at MSC Circulation Desk with an ID.  You can pick up electronic material by following the instructions given in the e-mail notification.

What happens if I can’t open my document?
Contact the ILL Department at 970.248.1844 or ill@mesastate.edu.  We will either re-send your document in another format, or print it for pick-up at the MSC Circulation desk.

How long can I keep an Interlibrary Loan book?
The lending library sets the due date.  To request a renewal, stop by L110A or contact us at 970.248.1844 or ill@mesastate.edu before the due date.

What if I lose my Interlibrary Loan book?

The lending library determines the charges for a lost or damaged book.  You are responsible for all lost or damage charges.
